Hi Clinton, My name is Sandra Leung, I am an instructor with Langara's Continuing Studies Photography program and teach the Business Management course along with Rick Etkin, who forwarded me your name. The business management class is mostly a logistics course and a good portion of the class is spent talking about estimates and pricing for all genres of photography. As a means to better equip students with the Commercial Photography Estimate process, the school has put together a commercial photography panel during the class to help students better understand the process behind commercial estimates & pricing. In past terms we have two commercial photographers, a production manager a digital retoucher and an art director involved with the panel, each providing insight & estimating/pricing on a mock client project. Rick Etkin will be one of the commercial photographers on the panel and I would like to ask if you would be part of the panel by participating in quoting for the mock assignment. The ideal goal of the panel is to help students grasp concepts behind how a commercial job would be estimated as well as what production/digital issues must be considered for particular jobs. About a week prior to the panel discussion the art director on our panel will issue a client project and each commercial photographer will be responsible for providing an estimate on the job. During the panel you will be asked to present your findings and how you come up with the quoting process (i.e. what questions you would consider asking, etc).. This job would be made available to you ahead of time so you have time to prepare. The panel will be held on Thursday evening June15th between 6:30-9:30pm. Past panel discussions have been extremely beneficial for the students and also very interesting having two different perspectives on the quoting process. Let me know if this interests you.
